Chapter Philanthropy

The only thing our sisters enjoy more than our sisterhood is our devotion to our philanthropy, Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. Locally, our donations and time go to the Palmetto Health Children's Hospital of Columbia, SC. We make trips to the hospital to spend time with the patients and participate in numerous philanthropic events throughout the school year to raise money and spread awareness for CMNH. Additionally, Phi Mu sisters participate in the philanthropic events of other Greek organizations, as well as community service events in the Columbia community.

BONNAMU

During the Fall 2022 semester, we held Bonnamu, our annual fall philanthropy event, which raised $18,668 for CMNH! Sisters, miracle families, and USC/Columbia community members alike all joined together at Tin Roof for a battle of the bands between local artists. Between ticket sales and dollar votes, audience members pick the winner who not only wins a cash prize, but also an opportunity to play at a future Phi Mu function. A diverse group of members of the South Carolina community enjoyed the event and we look forward to seeing it grow!

DANCE MARATHON

Phi Mu participates in the annual Children’s Miracle Network Hospital's fundraiser, Dance Marathon. The 14 hour event takes place in the Strom Thurmond Fitness and Wellness Center on campus in the spring.  Throughout the event, a 15 minute line dance is taught to the sisters by morale leaders (many of whom are Phi Mus!) who were trained to keep everyone motivated through the 14 hours. This year our sisters served as Vice Presidents, Directors, Staff members, and Morale leaders for Dance Marathon. Between these sisters and members of our own Phi Mu team, we were able to contribute $173,130 - over $1,000 for each of the 119 beds in Palmetto Health Children's Hospital! In total, this year's Dance Marathon event raised a record-breaking $931,016! We couldn't be more proud of all of our sisters who participate in this life changing event. Along with the satisfaction of being involved in Dance Marathon, we also received the recognition of the organization who raised the most money for Dance Marathon in 2017!

SILENT AUCTION

Phi Mu has recently started a new philanthropy tradition that includes getting our parents involved in our philanthropic efforts. During Parent’s Cocktail, our chapter hosts a silent auction to raise money for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. This year the auction sold a total of 78 items for a grand total of $8,700. Our chapter is very proud of the accomplishment we made and we cannot wait to continue the tradition of the auction for years to come.

BUILD-A-BEAR

Every year, our seniors get the opportunity to go to Build-a-Bear to make bears for the kids at our local children's hospital! This past spring, our philanthropy director Abigail got the chance to drop off over 50 bears that the seniors made!

CAMPUS EVENTS

Phi Mu also participates in philanthropic events for other fraternities and sororities such as Chi Omega's Cook-Off, Alpha Chi Omega's Paint War, and more. Additionally, Phi Mu supports the community service efforts of other campus organizations by participating in events such as the Carolina/Clemson Blood Drive, Service Saturdays, Trick or Treat with the Greeks, and Relay for Life.

COMMUNITY EVENTS

The Lambda Theta chapter strives to give back to the Columbia community by volunteering and participating in events outside of the Carolina campus. Phi Mu sisters can be found volunteering their time at the Salvation Army Soup Kitchen, Harvest Hope Food Bank, Pets Inc., and more.
